Viorel Huțu: A Life of Faith, Perseverance, and Blessings

Born in Botoșani, Romania, during the Communist era, Viorel Huțu grew up in a world where survival was a daily struggle. As the oldest of seven siblings, he embraced responsibility early on, playing a key role in caring for his younger brother and five sisters. Coming from a farming background, he learned to work hard and adapt, mastering various trades to provide for himself and his family. Though raised in a Christian home, it wasn’t until life’s hardships tested him that he fully surrendered to God. Seeking freedom and a better future, he set out on a long and difficult journey, crossing multiple countries before eventually finding his way to the United States—a dream many shared in search of a new beginning.

His path took him through 13 countries. From Romania to Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico each with its own challenges. Then to Canada and finally, to America. After a difficult start in America, he faced setbacks, including time in prison and an uncertain future. Eventually, he made his way to Canada, but his heart longed for the United States. In time, he found himself back in Chicago, where his life took a new turn. On August 20, 1995, he dedicated his life to God through baptism in Lake Michigan, standing alongside 46 other believers. The following year, he met Debora, the woman who would become his wife, and they married in August 1996. God blessed them with 11 healthy and beautiful children. Looking back, Viorel sees a journey filled with hardships and dangers—times when he could have lost everything—but through it all, God had a greater plan.

Eventually, he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he worked tirelessly in construction and various trades to support his growing family. Now settled in Nampa, Idaho, he is an active member of Elim United Church, where he and his family play a vital role in the community. Despite the struggles and the long road, he traveled, his faith never wavered. Today, as a father and grandfather, he remains deeply grateful for God’s blessings, knowing that his journey—his adventure—is far from over.
